Okay, so I know this is part of Hulu’s Into the Dark anthology series but technically it’s a TV movie…so I am going to allow it for the purposes of this list.
I had this one on my own personal list for a while but only just recently got around to it, and I’m glad because it gives me the opportunity to add it here for anyone that may be looking for Christmas alternatives. While it’s a very dark comedy thriller, it’s not a horror movie like the last two.
Julian Sands always plays such a great villain that’s still the case. I grew up with him as Warlock and while he’s not an evil sorcerer, he may even be more evil in this movie but the character is still fun. Molly Hagan has a lot of fun here too.
Kyle Howard is one of those guys who has been in a ton of stuff but usually doesn’t get the chance to be the lead so this was a nice change of pace for him. The same goes for Angela Sarafyan who plays opposite Howard.
I don’t know what was in the air but somehow I ended up watching back-to-back films with Dustin Milligan. I knew him best from Schitt’s Creek where he played the goofy but charming love interest. That was the case in the other movie I saw recently too, but here he gets to play a goofy asshole douche-bag and it still works.
This one is pretty mean-spirited at times but it’s aware of that and is ultimately a satire about the wicked delights of the filthy rich.
Recommendation: Don’t use this one to get in the Christmas spirit but if you are looking for something unconventional and aren’t afraid of some dark comedy then check it out.
Thanks for reading! I still believe word of mouth is the best way to help, so if you enjoy what I’m doing, please tell somebody. And if you have a comment, I’d love to hear it! Liking, subscribing, and sharing go a long way too. As usual, be well, be safe, and have fun no matter how you get your movies!
