Wakanda Forever – Remembering Chadwick Boseman

As I continue to grapple with the shocking and gut-wrenching loss of Chadwick Boseman, I’m struck by his incredible resilience and drive.

I’ve lost a number of family members to cancer and the strength it must have taken for Boseman to continue working grueling production schedules, while privately undergoing surgeries and chemotherapy, is immeasurable.

Even as his disease progressed to the latter stages during the Covid-19 pandemic, he worked diligently to help provide $4.2-million dollars in medical equipment to Black communities hit hardest by the Coronavirus through Operation 42.

In Boseman, the world has lost an incredible talent and a remarkable person who was just entering his prime as a public figure. He constantly worked to represent his community proudly and with grace; portraying important cultural figures like James Brown, Jackie Robinson, Thurgood Marshall, and of course T’Challa. I remember the energy in the theater before Black Panther began on opening night and the pride it brought to the Black community afterward. I know what it meant for me to see T’Challa on the big screen but I can only imagine how this loss feels for those who finally got to see themselves represented by him on screen.

My love goes out to his family, his friends, and his community. He will be missed, but he will not be forgotten. Rest in Power, King.
